Turning a fire escape a garden

Project Description add commentupload similar
We live in an urban area with limited outdoor space. Since we use the fire escape to get to our car, we pass this area often. We had some planting here 2 years ago, but it was time for a refreshing. Planted a variety of stuff including some basil, japanese cucumber (banana peppers), mint, and parsley. Easy to do and makes a huge difference.

These flowers are so much more colorful and appealing than your "hanging dirt." How do you find the flowers from HomeDepot to be? Were they expensive? Did the staff in the garden department offer any good advice for planting and sustaining an urban garden?
The flowers at Home Depot were good. The Home Depot people were pretty helpful at helping me pick out some good stuff and also had some suggestions on good products (they recommended the top soil, for instance). Pretty basic setup, but it definitely helps the fire escape.
