Paint a bookcase

Black pressed wood glossy bookcase
Glossy red paint prepared by Home Depot with primer in the paint (so no need to prime any of the surfaces.)
  • Black pressed wood glossy bookcase
  • 2 black shelves of the same material
  • Finished and drying.
  • Here is what happens if you don't prime -- paint dries but does not adhere to surface so it peels off.
  • More peeling.
  • Obviously this is not going well.
  • Back to Home Depot. New instructions: lightly sand all surfaces with 400 grit sandpaper.
  • All the paint has been peeled off and all surfaces have been lightly sanded. Note that Home Depot acknowledged the mistake and provided a quart of primer and a gallon of red paint at no cost.
  • Newspapers placed on floor to prevent damage. Pavers will raise the book case off the floor so paint will not stick to newspaper.
  • Bookcase placed on pavers and ready to paint.
  • Close up of book case on pavers.
  • Book case painted with primer.
  • Shelves will be placed on pavers. Also to prevent wet paint from sticking to newspaper.
  • Wash brush with water and hang so it can drip dry.
  • Shelf primed with grey and painted with red. Drying on pavers.
  • Glossy red paint prepared by Home Depot with primer in the paint (so no need to prime any of the surfaces.)
